College - Student Loans

Thursday, August 30th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Michael_Russell]Michael Russell In this article we’re going to discuss the topic of student loans and what a parent needs to be careful about. Let’s face it, sometimes your kid just isn’t smart enough or you’re not poor enough to qualify for a scholarship or financial aid. Yet, when it comes time to pay for your kid’s tuition, you just don’t have the money. So what do you do? In these cases the only recourse, unfortunately, is to apply for a student loan. Well, before you get yourself in over your head, there are things you need to know about student loans now so you’re not surprised later on. Even if you’re well off, tuition rates are insane. The average yearly tuition for college is now around $25,000 a semester, and that doesn’t include if the student decides to live on campus. That can escalate the cost to close to $40,000 a semester. So we’re talking over $150,000 for a bachelor of arts degree. That’s like buying a small home. And the truth is, next to buying a home, college tuition will be the biggest expense most families will have in their lifetime. The problem with student loans is that if they are not properly planned they can become a total disaster. The main problem is that most students don’t research the loan they are applying for before they literally sign their life away. The biggest mistake a student makes is when going to the financial aid office of a college they fill out a generic form for a student loan. Never do this just because it is available. You have no idea what kind of loan you’re filing for. You need to research where the loan will be coming from and all other financial institutions to see what the various interest rates are. The school may be giving you an application for a loan that will be between 8 and 12% when you can easily get one for as little as 6%. This will save you a lot of money down the road. The loans that traditionally have the best interest rates are the Perkins Loans. These are loans with rates that are set by the federal government and are currently at 5%. They are available through your school but usually they will not mention them unless you ask for them. This should be the first loan you apply for before going through the more traditional sources. There are loans that are also designed for certain fields of study, but again these are usually not mentioned unless you ask about them. Never take a private loan to fund your college. Those loans accrue interest from the minute you sign that document. With loans like a Stafford loan they don’t accrue interest until six months after you have graduated. The government itself pays the interest until you are out of school. Also, do not take cash advances as the interest on them is astronomical, usually over 20%. The most important thing to know about any student loan, even one through the government is that it’s a loan, not a grant. You MUST pay it back and failure to do so can land you into a lot of trouble. So make sure you have a payment plan worked out so that you don’t end up paying penalties, or worse, end up in jail. ——————————————————- Michael Russell Your Independent guide to [http://college-facts.com/]College ——————————————————- Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Michael_Russell http://EzineArticles.com/?College—Student-Loans&id=155210 abuse a incest himself support him forums with kelly too picklers under song his about had her that mom is literotica do incest of f more coach more training into emotional while incest and amp he dysfunctional come relationships you

If your ambitions are being thwarted due to inadequate funds then business loans are the required answer. Business loans are huge amount loans in which the amount of risk involved is enormous The borrowers credibility is a prime factor in giving the loan. Therefore reputed and large businesses with an established name are given a priority over the neophytes. But now lenders are willing to take a plunge into the deeper waters and new businesses are also given a chance. Start up loans are offered for the new businesses to make the amateurs tide over the initial rough phase. Business loans are provided by lenders at low rates of interest and at simple repayment terms. You can avail business loans for commencement, expansion, up gradation and diversification. Job Interview Mistakes To Avoid

Monday, August 27th, 2007

By Nathan Newberger By avoiding these 8 simple mistakes, you can improve your chances ofhaving a successful interview and landing the job of your dreams. 1. DON’T SHOW UP LATE. There is no easier way to lose points with a prospective employer than to show up late. First impressions do last. And unfortunately, showing up late screams things like I am unreliable or your time isnot important to me. Is this what you want a prospective employer tothink before you even have a chance to utter a word? Make it a pointto try to be early to every interview. That way, bad weather, trafficand that last minute phone call stand less chance of ruining yourentrance. If the unforeseen 18-wheeler does happen to dump 10 tons oftomatoes across the interstate, upon arrival, apologize first thing, offer a quickexplanation and move on. (Ideally you would have calledfrom your cell phone as soon as you caught sight of the delay.) 2. DON’T ACT DISINTERESTED. No matter what the circumstance never act disinterested during aninterview. If 10 minutes into the meeting you become certain thatnothing on the planet could convince you to take a job with thecompany continue to pay attention and act like you care about theconversation. Remember that the interviewer does not exist in avacuum. He or she has friends, relatives, and associates who mayinfluence future job opportunities. If you behave poorly, theinterviewer will remember and will share the story of you and yourunprofessional behavior with others. Havent you shared bad jobsearch experiences with people close to you? The interviewer isprobably no different. 3. DON’T BE UNPREPARED. Being prepared has many facets. Interviewers expect you to knowsomething about the company and the position you are seeking. Havingthis knowledge makes you appear both motivated and truly interested. So make sure you do your research! Excellent sources of informationinclude, the Internet, periodicals and people already in the field.Another facet of being prepared is being ready for the types ofquestions that may be asked. There are numerous articles on the weband in bookstores with practice interview questions and answers. Makesure to utilize all such resources available to you. And finally, dont forget to have extra copies of your resume and references onhand should they be requested. 4. DON’T FORGET YOUR MANNERS. No matter how old fashioned it appears to use word like please, sir, maam and thank you, do not delete these words from yourvocabulary. These simple words can work wonders towards making apositive impression. Always use a respectful tone of voice. Do notunnecessarily interrupt the interviewer. Maintain eye contact and apleasant expression. Leave the slang, slouching and gum chewing athome. Good manners signals respect for yourself and the people aroundyou; never underestimate their importance. 5. DON’T DRESS INAPPROPRIATELY. Whether you like it or not, the job interview is not the time toexpress your individuality. Always remember that your goal is to gainemployment, not to make a fashion statement. Accordingly, you shouldnot dress in any way that will distract attention from you and yourqualifications. Things to avoid include unconventional hair colors, excessive jewelry and makeup and any clothes that you would wear to anightclub. Prior to the interview, contact the companies HRdepartment and inquire about the company dress code. Do your best todress accordingly. If there is any doubt, err on the side of beingoverdressed. 6. DON’T BE UNTRUTHFUL Never, ever lie during an interview. Mistruths have an uncanny habitof catching up to people. If the interviewer catches you in a lieduring the interview, you have seriously damaged your chances of beinghired. After all, would you hire someone that you couldnt trust? Ifyour employer finds out you lied after you have been hired, it couldbe grounds for dismissal. Even if they do not dismiss you, you arestill in serious trouble as you have damaged your integrity in theeyes of your boss. The bottom line is that you should always betruthful when interviewing. 7. DON’T BE MODEST. When searching for the right job, put your modesty aside. Dont beafraid to confidently describe your skills and accomplishments. Afterall, if you dont sing your praises to your potential boss, then whowill? Dont count on your resume to do all the work; it is only atool to help you land the interview. Once you get your foot in thedoor, it is up to you to convince the interviewer that you are theideal person for the job. Worried that you will come across asconceited instead of self-confident? Then practice how and what youwill say with a friend or family member who can provide honestfeedback. 8. DON’T FORGET THE “THANK YOU NOTE. Once the interview has concluded, take a few moments to jot down yourimpressions of the interviewer, what you talked about and anyinteresting points that were brought up during the meeting. The idealtime and place to do this is in your car a soon as you have exited thebuilding, as your thoughts will be most fresh at this time. Use thisinformation as you compose a well thought out thank you note to theinterviewer. Mail this note no later than the day following theinterview. Remember promptness signals interest. Planning Your Successful Career: 15 Ideas

Friday, August 24th, 2007

By Etienne Gibbs “Doing a good job is one of the most important ways to move up the ladder”, says Dr. Don Bagin, Professor of Communications at Glassbro State College. If you are one of the many people who do a good job consistently but are not noticed by top management, here are some suggestions to help you get on the fast track: Smiling: Research has shown that people who smile are perceived to be more intelligent than those who don’t. Prioritizing: Avoid spending a great deal of time on things that aren’t important just because you are good at them. The person who gets ahead is the person who establishes priorities and sets aside time for them accordingly. Walking: Choose to walk rather than drive as often as possible. And when you do, walk at least ten to fifteen percent faster than you normally would. Somehow this faster pace communicates to others that you are a person with a mission who is eager to get the job done. Speaking actively: Use the active voice when speaking or writing. Listen to the difference: “I prepared and delivered the reports promptly.” Compare it to “The report was promptly prepared and delivered.” Although the second one told you something, many more questions were left unanswered. Knowing your boss: Get to understand your boss’ personality and when to approach him or her. If your boss is a morning person, be sure that you come up with your suggestions and proposals in the morning while he is most receptive. Volunteering: While being careful not to overdo it, volunteer for special projects and responsibilities outside of your working hours and job description. Expressing gratitude: Develop the habit of sending brief notes of thanks to anyone who has made your day easier. Positively speaking: Look for positive things to say about people, especially your co-workers. Being approachable: Make yourself approachable. Let people know when and how to reach you. Following-up: After a task-assigning meeting, follow-up immediately on those assignments that were given to you. Spotting trends: Learn to spot trends that affect your company or agency. Be the first person to alert those in a position to capitalize on them. Presenting effectively: Be certain that you speak clearly and precisely when making presentations. Speak with confidence and admit honestly when you don’t know, but promise to return with an answer promptly. Reading the trades: Determine which publications top management is reading, then get a copy of them so that you, too, can become knowledgeable of relevant matters. Making contact: Establish a contact person in all your referral sources. Make it a point to meet with that person so that you can get to know each other. It will help make your future contacts easier for both of you. Remembering your manners: Never forget to be polite or to follow the proper protocol. It lets people know that you mean business, that you take your business relationships seriously. Put these fifteen ideas into practice, and I guarantee you that you will see yourself progressing faster and farther than you think. Remember: When you maximize your potential, everyone wins. When you don’t, we all lose. Etienne A. The Bachelor Party - A Three Themed Plan

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

By Gail Leino The Bachelor party can be called a time honored tradition when a man and his friends get together to celebrate his freedom one last time before marriage. Lots of people have a negative view of the bachelor party because it can get a bit rowdy and those at the party may engage in drinking, gambling and perhaps some adult entertainment. That doesnt mean the bachelor party is always edgy and gets the bachelor in trouble with his future spouse. You can throw a great bachelor party using a Mardi Gras theme, a Casino theme or the Country Western theme and opt not to have the adult entertainment just to make sure everyone stays in the good with their partner. Research your chosen party theme a little bit so you know what items youll need to make the party truly authentic, such as a fun parade and beads for the Mardi Gras party, different game tables and green visors for the dealers at your Casino party and good old BBQ cooking and country music at the Country Western party. Speaking of food, you should go all out to create or get authentic foods that fit the theme of these parties too. Guests love sampling new flavors and youll be pleased that you took the time. Im in favor of creating a co-ed Bachelor/Bachelorette party so everyone can celebrate. Maybe you can still have rooms designated for each gender to go to when they want to celebrate without the guys or the gals and one joint room for dancing and eating. This way you can get a lot of dancing in at the party and still have that element of privacy. Lastly be sure to tell your guests to come dressed appropriately for each party theme. Youd be surprised how much the costume of your guests adds to the atmosphere of the party area. Go and get planning! Design a Business Card That Connects to Your Customer

Monday, August 20th, 2007

By Natalie Aranda The small and often overlooked business card is really one of the most important tools available for promoting your business. Business cards should be designed to provide eleven basic bits of information. The first group is the all important contact information items. These include such things as your business name and address. Your phone number and email would fall into this category also. The type of business and the services that you provide are also key elements. Business card printing is more than just the placing of this pertinent information on a small piece of cardboard, however. If the business card is going to be effective, it must connect with your customer in a most personal manner. If you are successful in your business card design, your card will end up in your customers wallet or pocketbook, or taped to his refrigerator door. How do you design the card to achieve this goal? The secret is in understanding the general principles of basic design. Good design in a business sense involves a concept that is known as intuitiveness. This means an understanding of your customer. It is seeing the design from his point of view and giving him exactly what he is looking for and not what you are trying to force on him. The use of graphics and color are important elements in this process. Graphics and logos have always played an important part in establishing a connection to your customer. The customer begins to associate certain images with your company. Once this mental association is complete the customer will feel a subconscious connection. It is very important to carefully select the graphics. They should be positive images that invoke positive responses. If you are seeking to make a subconscious connection with your customer, you want it to be one that is positive. Consistency is also important. A certain color can be associated with a company very easily. The brown of UPS is an example. The red color of cartons of Coca Cola and the blue of Pepsi Cola is another example of color association. When selecting color to use in your business card design, select one that is most likely to be identified with your product or service, and stick with it. If you really want your design to connect with your customer, the most important rule is to avoid the temptation to have your card proclaim how great you are, and make sure its main thrust is how much you have to offer to your customer. Wrinkle Treatment 101

Monday, August 20th, 2007

By Peter Lenkefi Wrinkles development is the classic early sign of accumulated skin damage and inevitable aging. Premature aging and wrinkling of the skin may be accelerated by excessive exposure to the sun and other elements, overactive facial expression muscles, the frequent use of tobacco products, poor nutrition, or skin disorders. Regardless of the cause of facial creases or folds, safe and successful treatments for reduction or elimination of these problems are now available with the help of a Facial Plastic Surgeon. Injecting or implanting substances which either temporarily weaken the muscles or act as skin volume fillers serve to soften or eliminate the appearance of wrinkles and produce a more youthful, rejuvenated appearance. There are several tropical medicines and creams on the market that are created for the treatment of wrinkles .Of course the first key is sunscreen. If its light outside, no matter the cloudy factor, you need sunscreen. Look for moisturizer with an SPF of 15 or higher. To keep wrinkles from worsening, look for products with ingredients (like Retinoids, Retin-A, Renova) that boost collagen production and prevent skin cells from breaking down. Matrixyl (found in the product Alria) is a newer ingredient that is becoming very popular and is touted as being great for sensitive skin. Alpha-hydroxy acids are common. These are “fruit acids” and include glycolic and lactic acid. Preparations containing these fruit acids are quite safe and cause no more than mild and temporary irritation. Keep in mind that the improvements you’ll notice are relatively subtle. To prevent skin cell breakdown, you also want products rich in antioxidants & beta-carotene. Vitamins A, C & E as well as plant, fruit, green tea, seaweed & marine extracts are all great antioxidants. Another popular antioxidant is Prevage, a prescription cream that is made with idebenone, a synthetic antioxidant that is touted as being very effective. Landscaping Tips: 6 Basic Steps To Building A Garden Pond

Saturday, August 18th, 2007

By Carlo Morelli Building a garden pond is not just a matter of digging a hole, lining it with plastic and filling it with water. There are other considerations such as whether it should contain fish or just plants; how big or small it should be; its shape, and so on. Be prepared to dig a decent hole and spend many hours complaining about your aching back but youll be very pleased with the results and you can happily stand around, beer in hand, praising your efforts after the fact. For those who have done it, building a garden pond can be a very satisfying project indeed. Step 1 - Decide on where to build your pond. Naturally, level ground would be best or else youll spend far more time and effort doing the levelling yourself. Building a garden pond under a tree is unwise as the roots will continue to grow and could encroach upon the ponds territory in the future. The shade of the tree will also mean a lack of sunlight, which is essential to your ponds survival. Since you will need electricity for the pump, proximity to an outlet is important. Step 2 Prefabricated or do-it-yourself liner? Prefabs are the more expensive option but you pay for ease of installation, durability and low maintenance. Liners are available in different price ranges and generally speaking, the more you pay, the longer your liner will last. Step 3 Installation For a prefab pond, tip it upside down on the area youve reserved, mark it out with 6 to 8 inches extra around the outside and start digging. If using liners, measure your outline keeping in mind the size of the liner you will be using. Building a garden pond that will last for years means that all debris should be removed from the cavity to avoid punctures to the bottom of the pond. Once the hole is the required depth and size, add the prefab or lay the lining. Fill to about one quarter capacity with water so that the weight will keep the pond in place as you refill the gaps with soil. Step 4 Decoration You can now add plants, rocks, bark and stone around the banks of the pond for a more natural appearance. If you intend to add fish, plants that overhang into the water will be useful as shade and hiding spots. Step 5 Add aquatic plants If youre building a garden pond that doesnt have a pump, you should aim for plenty of plant life to keep algae growth under control. Step 6 Install a pump and filter There are dozens of models on the market and your retailer will be able to help you decide which size is best for your pond. Read the instructions and follow carefully, but its generally a simple task to place the pump in the water and connect the hose to it. The filter needs to be positioned in front of the pump to encourage water through the filter first. Building a garden pond and outfitting it should take little more than a weekend, which is one of the things that makes it so rewarding. Business Loans for Startups: How to Get Approved

Friday, August 17th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Phil_Trumble]Phil Trumble Businesses have trouble securing finance at the best of times. Normally you have to have two years of solid financials before a money lender like a bank will even consider lending you money. Often you need to have a strong personal credit record to be eligible for a decent business loan from start-up. There are other lenders that offer business loans specifically for start-ups so the process is easier now than it was a decade ago. However, to stand the best chance of securing those much needed funds, follow these four steps to cement getting approved: Be a home-owner As a homeowner you will already have created a history of borrowing and are in possession of a large asset that can be used as security. Lenders are risk conscious. Business start-ups are in a high risk bracket. There is no way to tell if your idea will work, or you are a good money manager or if the execution of the idea will go to planned. They have to rely on your existing assets to pay the debt in the event of default. Include all your assets in your application The level of borrowing you can secure is normally determined by the amount of security you can place against the loan. Being a home owner is suitable as usually that is the biggest asset a person or a family owns. In a business, there may be more than one person applying so each person should list their assets as security to garner the highest loan possible. Items that are considered assets include: Cash Property Shares Bonds Vehicles The higher your asset value the more money you are able to borrow. Be careful not to over-extend yourself as you are liable to lose each asset you use as security against your loan. Have a good income record Have your old tax returns on record to demonstrate that you have had a good history of income. Even though starting a new business will affect this, if it demonstrated that you are capable earner then it does make the lender less cautious. Account exactly where the business loan will be allocated This is vitally important to getting your loan approved at the maximum level. If the lender can see where exactly the money is going they can ascertain if your application is viable. If you just make an application of $50,000 with no indication of how you are going to spend it then you may well get rejected. If you make an application for $100,000, where the total is itemised you are likely to be approved: $15,000 is for premises $50,000 is for equipment $25,000 is for inventory $10,000 is for staff From this quick list, the money lender can see that if you default they can retrieve money from equipment and inventory that will account for 75% of the total loan as well as the security you have put up. 180 Business Loans has assisted many businesses that were in financial difficulty by providing debt alternatives, short term loans and business advice.
