Media Communications Schools

Monday, March 31st, 2008

By Michael Bustamante Time to get the word out! Media Communications Schools help students examine communications among global communities, and includes courses in digital media, broadcasting, reporting, writing, interpersonal communications, speech, and rhetoric. Students should be aware that the terms media communications, journalism, and mass communications mean much the same, or very similar, thing. Therefore, course descriptions in school course catalogs may be more reliable than catalog course titles when considering and choosing among the various programs in Media Communications. Media Communications differs from Media Studies in that Media Studies stems from theatre, film, and speech, and stresses the effects of media on populations. Media Studies, as a discipline, relates to cultural viewpoints and the interpretation of communications. Media Communications (or Mass Communications), on the other hand, encompasses concepts and skills of writing, journalism, radio, television, and various types of communications through various media sources. The Internet is used today to convey a great deal of information that both affects and influences huge numbers of people and populations. A major tool of Media Communications, the Internet allows creative skills of individuals to shape, guide, and dispense information. A concern of Media Communications is the development of technical, imaginative, and creative talents as important factors in a good education in the discipline of Media Communications. Media Communications Schools provide curriculums that prepare students for production positions with media and media-related organizations. Degree programs promote the development of skills in written and verbal communication, grammar, journalism, keyboarding, digital editing, electronic publishing, advertising, public relations, photography, and more. Students often get hands-on writing, print and video production experience, and programming experience with college radio stations, in video production laboratories, and in campus cable television studios. Media Communications teaches gathering information from various sources; skills in electronic writing, announcing, producing, programming; audio and video digital editing; electronic production formatting and graphic design; organizational structures of communications institutions; ethics, laws, and governmental regulations that influence media; social influences that shape media; social and ethical issues raised by new technologies; and much more. Media Communications graduates may find positions in newspaper, radio, television, magazine publications, advertising, video production, and public relations. How To Grow Tomatoes In A Greenhouse

Saturday, March 29th, 2008

By Allan Wilson Many people now prefer to grow their own vegetables from home especially because of the health benefits derived from eating organic foods. There are a lot of different methods used to grow vegetables including the humble backyard garden however increasing in popularity is the use of greenhouses to grow many types of fruits and vegetables. This advanced technique is actually one of the best and easiest ways to grow vegetables for your daily consumption. Tomatoes are high on the list as one of the most popular organic foods to grow at home. In fact, formany gardeners and even farmers it is a very successful crop that returns excellent rewards for effort. Basically, many people prefer cucumber and lettuce to grow in an indoor garden. But relatively, tomatoes are just as easy to grow indoors. Plus the market demand for high quality tomatoes is always high because of their high protein content and other essential minerals. Growing tomatoes is not a big challenge for any grower however to produce high quality tomatoes can be a bit difficult if proper gardening methods are not used. Before you start with actual production, it is important to choose appropriate tomato cultivars. Because, tomatoes demand basically depends on their size, shape, and color. The main advantage of using high quality cultivar is a total freedom from cracks, low disease resistance, and low production. Better greenhouse tomato cultivar grows almost 30 40 feet for a 10 month season. Some modern species of tomatoes are more disease resistant that their older one. So, you have high production level and simple pollination methods. There are two major cultivar categories available on the market. One is Beefsteak and other is Cluster. The Beefsteak category of cultivars can produce large tomatoes that can weigh 6-8 ounces each. Famous cultivars include Jumbo, Laura, Caruso and Trend. All of these cultivars can be grown in Greenhouses and can produce sufficient amount of fruits with high quality. But two cultivars from this category Trust and Math are susceptible to small cracks on their surface. You can avoid such problems by controlling greenhouse temperature and moisture. The Cluster category is also very popular these days. These vine-ripened tomatoes are known by different names as cluster tomatoes, truss tomatoes, cluster harvested tomatoes, and also vine tomatoes. It is the most widely grown tomato crop around the world. Cluster tomatoes are very similar to their beefsteak category tomato crops with the only difference being that the plant is longer and tomatoes are in cluster form. These tomatoes are high quality in shape, color and taste and also have an excellent shelf life. You can use any crop to grow tomatoes in your greenhouse. However for better production you always need to be careful about the greenhouse environment, temperature, humidity, and you also need to spray pesticides regularly. Understand The Health Benefits And Rights

Friday, March 28th, 2008

By Aasheesh Jain I recently came across a hard drug-addict who is paid by the Government of his country a monthly social security benefit of $1000 per month. He looks normal, when he is not under the influence of intoxication. His Government has classified him under the category, incurable drug-addict! What do you do with this money? I asked him. Pat came the reply, Buy my day’s quota of the drug doses first! And if something remains, buy eats. He was a socially disabled individual according to his Government. Now unfortunately, it has become a practice. You aren’t actually disabled and yet you try to get the benefit of disability by obliging the government. Disability health doesn’t mean that you are a condemned individual. Even with disability you can perform some sort of jobs and enjoy your disability benefits. In some cases, you can’t see with the naked eyes all sorts of disabilities. A perfectly healthy individual may have a psychological problem to such an extent that for all types of his day to day functions, he may have to depend upon others. Similarly you can’t see the disability in persons suffering from depression or migraines. As stated above, even if you are covered under Social Security Benefits, you are allowed to work and receive the benefits, subjected to certain conditions. If you are aware of the correct position about this, you may not land in legal complications. Otherwise, enjoy the benefits that you deserve. The pre-tax limit for the year 2006 for disabled people is $ 860. This is subject to the condition that after a period of 9 months, your performance will be evaluated. If the Social Security Inspectors declare you a fit individual, your benefits under the Scheme are stopped. However, they may grant you an extended period of disability. When you are past the middle age, say 35-40 years, it is desirable to give a proper thought to buy a disability insurance policy. Do not be under the false protective frame of mind that you have life insurance with accident benefits and you are covered under the Workmen Compensation Act. The purpose of disability insurance is altogether different. Sometimes the expenses devolved in disability and loss of your pay and allowances for say a duration of one year, may wipe out your entire savings of lifetime. Give proper consideration to all disability health related issues, before you buy a policy. It need not, necessarily be cheap policy. It needs to be a just policy, suitable for you. And you will have lots of peace of mind. Coffee House Possibilities

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

By Devlyn Steele When your single your always imagining meeting that right person. Come on admit it, we all have our fantasies. We also incorporate our fantasies into our daily lives and imagine meeting that person who gets our heart racing and our palms sweaty at the places we go. While were in the gym we think about it. At work we think about it. While driving were thinking about it. We think about it a lot! Certainly while we are sitting at our local coffee shop we look up as someone is coming in and wonder and hope. We hope for that coffee house possibility of meeting that right person. Why not, it could happen and it certainly does! After all youre not the only one thinking about it, we all are. So that person walking in is hoping for the same thing you are. To give your possibilities more of a chance try going to the same coffee shop and go at the same time. Most people follow routines and by following one yourself you could see the same person regularly. Regularity creates familiarity creating a sense of comfort, which allows two people to ease into conversation. Try not just picking up your coffee to go, sit and enjoy a refill. After all, there are no possibilities while sipping your mocha caf latt driving. In fact, take a hot sip while driving and you might have a different possibility, an accident. When you see that certain someone that cause your heart to have a little arrhythmia, dont just freeze, at least smile. Take a chance and even say hello. You never know unless you try. If it goes nowhere dont worry, the great thing about your coffee house, there is always another person coming in creating endless coffee house possibilities. So sit enjoy, whats your rush after all the coffee is good and that next person walking in could be the one you want to meet who wants to meet you, anything is possible at the coffee house! Choosing the Right Material for Garden Furniture

Monday, March 24th, 2008

By Kenny Yong The right garden furniture would transform a garden into a living work of art. Your choice of garden furniture would change the garden into a reflection of yourself or a message of the emotions you wish to express. The importance of good garden furniture cannot be denied. Seldom would you see gardens without furniture nowadays. As it is, they provide resting spots for some people, meeting places for others and a place to think for a few. Choosing good garden furniture is just like choosing any other acquisition. There are many considerations to be thought of before you can actually make a choice. The material, style, mood, location, and other details need to be included in the choosing of garden furniture. The right material can be crucial to your purpose in having the garden. To give you a bit of help, here are some materials that garden furniture is made of: *Wood - garden furniture in wood may be found in different styles. Some consider wood as the best material for garden furniture as it is lightweight and pleasing to the eyes. It also blends easily with the garden life. Wood is also comfortable, an important aspect when you think about the fact that an essential part of garden furniture is seating. When you choose wood, go with teak. Teak is the best wood for garden furniture as it is very durable when placed outdoors. This is due to its high oil content. Wood is also easy to clean as some warm soap, water and a brush would remove any dirt caused by constant use. Wood garden furniture also ages beautifully, blending with the colors of nature. *Rattan or Wicker- these materials used to be unusable for garden furniture because though beautiful, they shrivel easily. However, new finishes now make rattan and wicker garden furniture more durable. Garden furniture made of these materials tend to look quaint. They are reminiscent of tropical countries and country life. Rattan or wicker garden furniture also tend to be very comfortable, even without additional cushions. *Wrought iron -garden furniture made of wrought iron just looks so cool. With wrought iron garden furniture, your garden would just look regal. Wrought iron is hand-crafted, giving garden furniture a look all its own. Wrought iron probably showcases the uniqueness of people like no other garden-furniture material. There are, however, some disadvantages to wrought iron. It weathers badly, as iron rusts. However, there are manufacturers who coat wrought iron garden furniture with special paint to prevent this. Wrought iron garden furniture is also hard and not very comfortable. However, a few cushions provided during dry season should solve this. However, you do need to invest in covers to slow down the deterioration of wrought iron garden furniture. You also need to store them during bad climate. Plastics -while some people may scoff at the thought of plastic garden furniture, the convenience provided by the material has persuaded many people to go for it. Plastic is very weather-resistant so you need not worry about quick deterioration. Different types of garden furniture also come in plastic. So whether you are looking for tables, chairs or any other furniture, you can be sure to find plastic ones. Plastic is also easy to maintain as a quick wipe would clean it up. How Sunless Tanning Products Work

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

By James C Sunless tanning products are not the same as they were a decad or so ago. You no longer have to worry about orange or blotchy skin. The bronzers of the past have been replaced with lotions and sprays that actually chemically react with your skin giving you a natural looking tan. But how exactly do they work. Today’s tanning lotions and sprays use a chemical called Dihydroxyacetone or DHA for short. DHA is a sugar that will react with amino acids. The dead cells on your skins surface contain amino acids and when the DHA reacts with it, it darkens your skin. It is a totally harmless process which is easier to control than bronzers of the past. You can control how dark of a tan you get by applying more or less of the product. The only drawback of these sunless tanning lotions and sprays is that they have a relatively short life. Because your body is constantly shedding the dead skin cells on your skins surface, you will have to reapply the tanner often. You should use some caution when using sunless tanners. Remember that unlike a regular tan from a tanning bed they will not protect you from sun exposure. Use sun screen just as if you had no tan at all. Also, you should test the tanner on a hidden part of your body before applying it over all of your skin. Everyone’s body is different and you do not know exactly how yours will react. So before you go bake yourself in the sun, consider the other alternatives. You might thank yourself in ten years for the damage you didn’t cause your skin. The Dating Box

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

By Devlyn Steele Whether you are actively dating or just getting back into dating, it is a world full of possibilities. However, most of us are creatures of habit and our patterns keep us in a dating box, searching for and dating the same types over and over. Making contact online, you first have to find people that interest you by searching the dating websites membership. Online the dating box is literal, as you have to fill in web forms to find potential dates. Most dating sites give you two ways to search quick or advanced. Quick searches are just that theyre small web forms that let you search based on just a few criteria, like location or age. Advanced searches are larger web forms that let you search using lots of more specific criteria, like hair color, eye color, education, body type and more. Just remember that the more criteria that you use for your searches, the fewer results youll get. Searches are unforgiving theyll return exactly what you ask for. We call them harsh numbers. When you choose an age range of, lets say, 30-39, the person who just turned 40 will not show up in the search results. If you want to find someone with light brown hair, those great dark brown haired peoplelike mewill be cast aside. Also, many sites let you use keywords as part of the search criteria. This allows a search for words in a members profile that match your areas of interest. You can search specifically for words like tennis, skiing, or something else. This lets you be super-specific if you wish. Although you want to find someone that attracts you and that you share things in common, dont limit yourself to what you think is your type. After all, the type that you have gone for in the past might have not worked out. Think outside your box. What we often think is our type is the same person we have been chasing unsuccessfully, through one bad relationship after another, our whole life. Even if your type was a successful relationship in the past, you cannot repeat a relationship you once had with someone new. Unless you date outside your box you will never know if maybe someone different just might be your type. When going over your wants, there is the numbers trap that we need to watch out for as well. Offline we often use the expression, numbers dont lie. However the new culture of online dating, numbers often do lie. For instance the harsh numbers of weight, height and age when in black and white may make a person appear unattractive to you online, who you would find very attractive offline. When we meet people in person we dont say, How old are you? How much do you weigh? How tall are you? How much money do you make? In person someone may carry his or her height, weight or age off in a very attractive manner. But when you look at the numbers online you think too old, too heavy, too short, too tall etc and that simply may not be the case. You have the right to want what you want, but I tell you this so that you can allow yourself to look past the numbers and be more open. If youre not finding people that fit, try expanding your horizons. You are not making any long-term commitment when meeting people, so be open and meet more people and who you fall for might surprise you. So get out of your dating box and dont restrict yourself. Allow the incredible opportunity of online dating to work for you. Contact and meet a lot of people and leave yourself open to the possibilities About The Author- As a life coach, Devlyn has made helping people find ways to improve their lives his personal mission and passion. Thursday, March 20th, 2008

By Dee Schrock Is a 50th birthday party coming up and you’re at a loss for ideas? Here are a few tips and ideas to help you get started. You can create your own invitations by drawing 50th birthday theme such as “50″ or over-the-hill gag themes. A great themed 50th birthday party is 60’s memorabilia. Have beanbag chairs handy for a groovy gathering. Share old stories about the guest of honor. Be sure to include items such as a “magic bus”, peace signs, and candles luminating the room. Wear your flowered pants, John Lennon glasses and peace sign, or go all out with your leisure suit. Don’t forget your hippie wig! Have the guest of honor wear a birthday crown or Happy Birthday hat. Be sure to complement their outfit with an “over-the-hill” cane Serve your food of choice on these tie-dyed party plates and tableware. Drinks can be served in psychedelic light up glasses. An easy choice of games is to play a game of 60’s trivia. There are several available including Trivial Pursuit 60s/70s editions. Play clips from 60’s TV shows or movies and competing teams guess first what movie/show the song was from. 60’s karaoke is lots of fun and gets everyone laughing. Christian Kids and Santa Claus - Should you Encourage Them to Believe?

Monday, March 17th, 2008

By Jen S Carter In the film, Miracle on 34th Street, the saddest part is the idea of a child who doesnt believe that theres such a thing as a real Santa Claus. The story is all about restoring the joy that should be present in the life of every child. No-one wants to be a killjoy, but how can you reconcile being a Christian with encouraging your child to believe in the fantasy that is Santa Claus? As someone who came to faith whilst their children were young, I came across an interesting way of handling this situation. We had just explained to our children about Jesus, reading them stories about him and telling them the wonderful story of Christmas. The thought that they would one day grow up and realise that the stories of Santa were just a fiction for children was bad enough but what if they were to make the obvious connection that wed also told them stories about Jesus and start to question that too? If we were going to tell them anything it had to be the truth. With great fear and trepidation, I broached the conversation one mealtime Children, you know that weve told you stories about Santa. About how he climbs down the chimney and fills your stockings with gifts? Well, theres something you need to know, Santa is just a story and he isnt real. Waiting with baited breath for the reaction, I was most taken aback when my eldest son simply looked at me and said, Oh Mummy, dont be silly, EVERYONE knows that Santa is real! and all the children started laughing as if I must be the silliest mother in the world. Ever since then weve had this joking relationship about Santa where they realise I must be the craziest mum not to know about him and Ive been able to be honest with them about whats true and what isnt. Each of them has come to know for themselves the difference between childrens stories and the story of a baby that was born in a stable. My kids are all now grown-up, they never lost the magic of Christmas in fact, they all hold the magic of Christmas in their hearts. How Green Tea Can Help You To Lose Weight

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

By Arina Nikitina Green tea has been highly valued in Asia for centuries for it’s medical properties. In the recent years green tea benefits caught the attention of western scientists. Alongside with confirming many of the green tea benefits scientists indicated that green tea can also help you lose weight. During their research they’ve made an amazing discovery. Even though green tea did contain caffeine it have not change the energy expenditure nor it have significantly change a heart rate. That led to a conclusion that green tea helps to lose weight naturally and safely. In this respect, green tea or green tea extract is different from most of the prescription drugs for obesity or herbal products like ephedra, which can raise heart rates and blood pressure, and are not recommended for many individuals sensitive to stimulants. The secret of such influence on the body lays in high concentrations of catechin polyphenols. These compounds work with other chemicals to intensify levels of fat oxidation and thermogenesis, where heat is created in the body by burning fuels such as fat. Green tea causes carbohydrates to be released slowly. This prevents sharp increases of insulin in your blood (insulin stimulates the transformation of fatty acids into fat molecules which are stored as fat droplets). As the result fat is burned faster without being “locked” in the fat sells. I want you to remember that even a small effect can go a long way when you are dealing with your metabolism. For example, just by drinking one cup of tea a day or by taking green tea extract in the form of supplement you will burn about an extra 78 calories. This adds up to over 28,000 calories in a year. Which is about 8 extra pounds of weight. There is also clear evidence that green tea’s polyphenols (EGCG) helps depressing leptin (a protein produced by fats that plays an important role in how the body manages fat storage through brain signals). Lower leptin levels decrease the appetite. It means that you will get that “I’m full!” felling faster and as a result consume less food. It is quite certain that green tea is now holding promise in various areas of weight loss. Drink a cup of your favorite green tea every day and lose those extra pounds easier and faster. Good luck!
