Essential Cell Phone Accessories

Friday, March 14th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Lydia_Quinn]Lydia Quinn Nowadays, everyone has a cell phone. It’s as ubiquitous an accessory as purses or backpacks. Cell phones are now as essential to carry with you as keys, wallets or even money. Whether to communicate with your workplace for business reasons, to stay in touch with family or a myriad of other reasons, cell phones are simply an essential part of our daily lives. There are a number of accessories available to improve or enhance your cell phone experience, let’s look at some of the essentials. Case Just about every cell phone should also have a matching case. A case will protect your phone from dirt, dust, minor spills or light rain and even offer some protection from drops and bumps. Your cell phone should last longer if you have a case on it, so it’s also a practical accessory. Car Charger Pretty much everyone who has a car and a cell phone uses them together, right? So it makes sense to purchase a special charger just for use in your car. A car charger will protect against any charge loss but also provide additional charging power for when you leave your car. Headset A wireless headset is another essential accessory. A headset will allow you to talk without having to use your hands. It’s safer for when you’re driving but can also be handy for when you’re walking somewhere or doing something that requires both your hands. There are also special hands-free units available specifically for use in your car. Emergency Charger An emergency charger is available in two types currently. One is a hand cranked model, where you turn a knob for a few minutes to generate power for a few minutes of cell phone use. The other is a battery powered model, which requires an AA battery. Both are good options to keep in your car, purse or on your person in case you get stuck somewhere with your car broken down or are somewhere where you have no outlet available to charge your phone. Just remember that with the battery powered model, you need to make sure the battery you carry with you is fresh or you’ll need to carry extra batteries. In this case, the hand crank charger may be a better option for most people, since everyone has the ability to crank the charger and, in theory, you should be able to crank the charger to use the phone for as long as you need to. Also, needing batteries to charge your cell phone incurs an additional cost, whereas with the hand crank charger, there is no need to buy anything more for it to work. Services & Downloads There are many other accessories for your phone that can be downloaded or purchased in addition to your cell phone plan. For fun, there are dozens of games available for most cell phones, ranging from poker, solitaire and puzzle games to driving, shooting, strategy and adventure games. There’s also many additional items available to personalize and customize your cell phone to make it reflect your personality and tastes, like ringtones, wallpaper and screensavers. In addition to these, you can customize your cell phone to automatically bring you relevant news, maps, restaurant reviews, theater listings, horoscopes, weather, sports scores and much more. Pretty much anything you can get on the web, you can also access through most cell phones. Lydia Quinn writes for Free-Ringtones.uk.net, where you can get ringtones for your cell phone for free. Food - An Alternative to Emotions

Wednesday, March 12th, 2008

By Michael Hadfield Emotion: a moving of the feelings: agitation of the mind: one of the three groups of the phenomena of the mind feeling, distinguished from cognition and will. Food: what one feeds on: that which, being digested, nourishes the body: whatever sustains or promotes growth. No obvious connection there, is there? My dictionary doesn’t make a distinction between emotions and feelings, but some psychologists do, so I’ll be more clear about the sort of thing I’m writing about here: hurt, upset, sadness, anger, grief, and maybe even boredom if it is accompanied by an irritation about the boredom. There are positive emotions, but they generally don’t cause problems unless maybe you’re on a permanent high and can’t get down. Let’s think about lions for a moment. They lounge around in the sun most of the time. When they get hungry, they go and kill something and eat it until they are full. Then they lounge around until they are hungry again and amuse themselves by fighting among themselves or driving off other lions. They don’t go out and kill something for something to do because they are bored. They don’t go out and kill something because they are angry, or sad. They eat when they need to eat, and they don’t even need to eat every day. Can you imagine a lioness going out and killing and eating every time her partner growled at her? Can you imagine a lioness going out and killing and eating every time her cubs became a little boisterous? Ok. Lions probably don’t experience emotions and they are much more focused in the now, but they probably don’t get overweight and suffer heart and circulation problems either. So why do people do those things? Why do people head for the fridge when someone has done something they didn’t like? Why do people head for the fridge when they feel lonely? Why do people head for the fridge when the commercial break starts or the clock says ’supper time’? Why do they do those things regardless of whether or not they feel hungry. And it’s difficult to imagine how someone could feel hungry after eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner isn’t it? They do it because they don’t want to feel. They do it because they are afraid of what will happen if they don’t. They do it because it distracts them from being fully present with themselves. And they do that because they don’t really like themselves, and they certainly don’t love themselves. No one who loves themselves would mistreat their body in any way, because love doesn’t mistreat. Love and health are synonymous. As children we naturally express how we feel from moment to moment. I feel sick, I don’t like that, I’ve got a headache, my tummy hurts, I’m bored and when we feel angry we shout and stamp our feet and walk away. But as we grow we are taught that good children don’t do those things. It’s not polite to tell aunty you don’t like her cakes when she’s spent all afternoon making them ’specially for you. If you shout at me I’ll give you a smack. Idle hands are the devil’s playthings. So we are taught to lie about how we feel, to not express when we are deeply unhappy, that anger is unacceptable, and that sitting contentedly, happy in our own mental world of fascination and creativity, is unacceptable. And then after getting screwed up like that (because our parents feel pressure to socialise us and make us acceptable to others - because they understand loneliness and don’t want you to develop any traits that would cause you to be rejected by others) they feed you when you are no longer obviously expressing your unhappiness. They know something is wrong by your change of mood, and they don’t like seeing you unhappy so they feed you. Chocolate, sweets, ice cream, cream cakes are all foods that are used to entice you into a better mood state. Notice that apples, pears, oranges, nuts, tomatoes and such are never used to entice you to change your mood state. When you are ill, you get treats, all the same foods filled with fat and sugar. Now when we are little our parents and close relatives are Gods. They are all-wise. They can read our minds. They can work magic. And so what they teach us is stored deep within our minds and we call on it in times of trouble. Times of trouble are usually when we feel low, or bored. We have been taught that eating fat and sweet takes the pain away. At least that’s what we act as if we’ve been taught. But there was a processing error in our young minds. What we really got, and really wanted was love and attention and appreciation. The treat was just the medium that transported and expressed that feeling of being loved and cared for. But we mistook it. The reason we go to the fridge is because it reminds us of being loved and cared for. It reminds us of loving arms around us; being tucked up in bed; having someone come up with ideas of how to have some fun together with them; having someone stroke your hair; and those are wonderful things to have experienced as a child. To know and to feel loved at any time during life is a wonderful experience. You can change the pattern if you want to. You just need to experience the emotion that has been buried. You need to let it out and let it go. Writing is a wonderful medium for releasing emotion. Make a pact with yourself that every time you head for the fridge and you have no feelings of hunger that you will sit down for just five minutes and write. What you write is what you feel. Start off with ‘I feel right now’ and insert whatever you are feeling bored, lonely, unloved, fed-up and so on. And then write ‘this feels like the time when’ and allow your mind to drift back into the past and write out whatever comes up. Write down who did what when and why. Write down who you’re angry at. Write down what you’d like to say now or what you should have said then and keep going until you get tears. Until you touch the emotional hot spot that causes tears to flow you will not bring about any significant change. Once the tears flow you can stop writing and rip up the paper. Language and grammar are unimportant; no one will read your words. Make eating a conscious activity. It’s ok to feel however you feel. No one has the right to deny you the full and natural expression of your emotions. But you do need to take responsibility for you. Expressing your emotions isn’t hitting, hurting, or seeking revenge on another. It is giving yourself permission to feel however you are feeling and giving yourself permission to express how you are feeling to anyone that you feel it’s important to express those feelings to. It is not an excuse to blame someone else for how you feel. Your feelings are yours, and why you are feeling them is your stuff. Others only fire off emotions so that you can identify a problem and heal it. They are not to blame for how you feel and neither are you. Michael J. Marshmallow Making

Monday, March 10th, 2008

By Michael Russell Marshmallows are well known throughout the world for their fluffy, pillow-like texture and light sweet taste. This confection is either eaten as it is, melted into s’mores, or topped over ice cream, cake, or shakes. Nowadays, the biggest consumers of marshmallows are the Americans. Experts say that the Americans consume more than 90 million pounds of marshmallows a year. The peak season for selling marshmallows is between October and December but it is enjoyed all year round. Unknown to most of the public is that this gooey treat has been enjoyed since the time of the pharaohs and royal families of Ancient Egypt. However, the marshmallows before looked very different from the ones we have today. The marshmallow comes from the mallow plant scientifically known as Athaea officinalis and is a wild plant common in the marshes. The name ‘marshmallow’ is actually the combination of ‘mallow’ from mallow plant and ‘marsh’ from the word marshes. The mallow plant has been naturalized in America but is native to Asia and Europe. In ancient Egypt, the sap of the mallow plant was squeezed out and mixed with honey and nuts to create a sweet and light snack. The marshmallow reached France and the rest of the western world in the early 1800s. It was then that small candy store owners started whipping up the sap of the mallow root and turned it into a fluffy candy mold. The candy was new and interesting that their supplies easily ran out. The store owners had a hard time meeting the public’s demand because the whipping was done manually by hand and was a very time-consuming process. Due to this, the candy makers had to experiment with different approaches to find another way to make marshmallows. In the late 1800s, they discovered the Starch Mogul System. This system enabled the candy makers to make marshmallow molds using modified cornstarch. Also to keep the marshmallow stable and to prolong its shelf-life, the candy makers switched the mallow sap to gelatin. When the process was developed and production was high, the technology was brought to the United States in the early 1900s. In modern times, there are many ways to make marshmallows. Marshmallows making is very easy and can even be done at home and the ingredients are almost the same. In home recipes though, salt and vanilla extract is added to give more flavor. The method used in the 19th century was done by mixing ingredients like sap from the mallow root, egg whites and sugar. This mix is then poured out into a fluffy mold that makes its signature shape. The French would add cornstarch to speed up the process. However, the process of making marshmallows has changed. The ingredients are different now because the mallow root sap was changed into gelatin and is added with starch, sugar, corn syrup and water. The result is a fluffy mixture which is piped through long tubes and then cut into equal pieces. These are then packaged and shipped to candy stores. In the US, a man named Alex Doumak changed the way marshmallows were made. He did this by creating and patenting the Extrusion process in 1948. This process was done by pouring and mixing the ingredients together which were passed through tubes and pipes. After this, the marshmallows are poured out and cut by machine into equal pieces. Eventually, different shapes of marshmallows were made. The shape was achieved by using a special nozzle that moves back and forth to create and cut the marshmallows into the desired form. These are then packaged and sent to candy stores. The marshmallows became very popular in the US by the 1950s and started to be used in different food recipes. The Emergence of Botox as A Headache Treatment

Sunday, March 9th, 2008

By Lee Dobbins Botolinum toxin A has been around for about three decades, but its many benefits to the health of patients taking it are just starting to surface. Medical doctors, especially in the United States, started injecting what is more popularly known as botox to patients who suffer from an eye disorder known as strabismus. Strabismus is characterized by an abnormal misaligning of the eyes, leading to crossed eyes. In 1989, the US Food and Drug Administration approved the use of botox as a treatment for eye muscle disorders like uncontrolled twitching. Thus, the use of botox in the medical profession became wide spread. But like many other drugs, the potential of botox has expanded beyond its original purpose. In the recent years, the drug has also been discovered to treat the awkward excessive underarm sweating and more importantly, to get rid and prevent wrinkles in the face. Cosmetic treatment It is its use as cosmetic treatment that botox’s popularity rapidly shot up. From the United States, cosmetic surgeons and practitioners from across the globe started injecting botox to vanity-conscious patients who aim to prevent the onset of ageing in their faces. Many ageing ladies, and several men as well, prefer to use botox to preventive premature and timely ageing wrinkles. It is because unlike other forms of treatment, botox does not involve the use of scalpels and surgical procedures. The doctor would just need to inject the drug to several specific areas of the face and the neck for its effect to linger for at most six months. The satisfying result on earlier patients also has helped make the popularity of botox even more evident. Botox as headache treatment But did you know that recently, another used of the drug has been discovered accidentally? Yes, aside from helping patients prevent and control ageing wrinkles and eye muscle spasms, botox has been discovered as a potent drug to treat severe headaches. In the medical profession, headaches were largely dealt by neurologists who specifically focus on the illness’ diagnosis and cure. But until recently, plastic surgeons were accidentally linked to a longer-term treatment of headaches or migraines. Several clinical tests have proven that the patients who were injected with the botox treatment for eye spasms and aesthetic purposes were spared from the onset and occasional attacks of migraines. Surveys covering botox patients also confirm the notion. Those patients emphasized that after using botox, they have not experienced severe and even mild headaches, for at least six months. Specific injection points However, doctors note that to be able to treat headache episodes, botox has to be injected in specific areas of the body. Particularly, studies and reports of patients indicate that botox has to be injected in any of the following areas: the side and the back of the head, the forehead, the eyes and the muscles of the brow. Other than the specified areas, botox injections are not found to lead to the prevention and cure of headaches. Those who suffer migraines on a daily, weekly and regularized basis are singled out as the primary beneficiaries of the new botox purpose. It is logical that from the start of this new discovery, botox would further become popular not just for beauty-conscious people, but also for those who have grown tired of consulting to neurologists for the treatment of headaches. Surpassing neurologists’ prescriptions The traditional headache treatments have almost become obsolete with the emergence of botox as a headache treatment. Thus, neurolgists’ patients have expressed relief that they have been given alternative treatments than the conventional drugs for headaches like the sumatriptan, or more commonly known as Imitrex. Side effects Almost all medicines and treatments have side effects, and of course, botox is of no exception. However, the side effects linked to botox treatment are limited to inability to move the brow muscles, which to some patients is good because frown lines in the forehead can be alleviated. Other than that, there is no other side effect linked to botox intake. Botox has truly become extremely useful in the medical world. It is no wonder that the drug’s popularity continuously rises up as years go by. Those who are afraid of needles are now given more reasons not to fear injections anymore. Packing for the Big Move

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

By Stuart Simpson When you are moving and have to hire movers, its cheaper to fill the entire truck, right? Wrong. The cost per 100 lbs. decreases, yes, but you have more of these 100 lbs. to multiply. Even if you get a uhaul and move it yourself, filling up the truck with useless items will cost more gas money. Storage for non-essential items for moving later can end up costing more than the items are worth. Moving can end up being very costly. Here are some tips and practical considerations for your move. Organization: Set aside an area in the garage where every family member can put things they no longer want. Have another pile for items that are maybe keepers. Its hard to cull our possessions. Have the family as a whole help decide on what to keep in the maybe pile. Sell the rest at a garage sale and call the Salvation Army or local charity and donate the rest. Either theyll send in a truck, or worst case, youll have to take it to them, but you might qualify for a tax right off. Alcohol: Cant transport it across state lines. Get rid of it. Appliances: Sometimes taking your fridge, washer and dryer with you can cost you more than they are worth. These items are large and heavy and could add $100 to $200 to your move per appliance. If you are selling your house, you might be able to work the new owners a sweet deal, otherwise place an ad in the paper and get rid of them. Get new or used ones at your new location and youll be money ahead. Books: Use the post office. Seriously. The book rate is around $20 per 100 pounds. Compare that with your movers rate. Tools: Cull your tool collection and if you are driving or renting a uhaul, take them in the car or truck with you. Tools are heavy. Besides, theyll come in handy at the new location and you wont have to wait for the movers to unpack everything to find them. And if you are taking a uhaul, be sure to load them last so the tools will be the first to unload. Furniture: Take what you need and want; just make sure it will all fit. No point in moving it to find out it wont fit in the new place and youll just have to rent a storage unit or sell it. Try to do a layout of your new house and place in the furniture. Do the math to see if it will all fit. Youll be glad you did. Piano: Be prepared to pay for special handling when moving a piano or organ. You do not want to put a piano in storage. Sell it or take it. Pool Table: Do you still use it? You know the slate will have to be removed and the table will have to be leveled at your new location. Be sure you crate (with wood) the slate for travel. Prepare for additional moving expense. Valuables: Do not ship your valuables. If you must, you could ship them to yourself, but use adequate insurance and dont ship anything that cant be replaced. Storage Shed: If you have one, youll probably decide to leave most of these storage items or get rid of them. Theres no point in moving them from storage at one house to storage at the other. Itll just take up more room in the uhaul. Items not to move: Alcohol See aboveFlammables including any kind of aerosol can. Items like deodorant, hairspray, spray paint, etc.Firewood or lumber Food (eat it all, dont ship it)Clothing update your wardrobe and cull out for the garage saleMagazines If you must, cut out recipes or tear out articles you havent had time to read, but dont take the whole magazine. Storage is an option but eventually youll still have to move everything. I hope this article helps you get realistic with the items you need for moving. Help with Fly Fishing Basics

Wednesday, March 5th, 2008

By Ryan Simpson If you are considering taking up fly fishing as a hobby then two of the reasons probably include enjoying the beauty of nature and breathing in the beautiful fresh air. Fly fishing is one of the sports where you can truly enjoy the nature around you and experience the calming effect of the water. There is no speed involved with things flying by you too fast to notice, there is no rush to go anywhere, and there are no guarantees that you will catch any fish. These attributes of fly fishing make it an ideal weekend or vacation sports if your purpose is to be outside in nature and fully relax far away from the hustle and bustle of normal day to day life. The fly fishing rod is lighter and shorter than the average rod used for other types of fishing. These rods are on average around 9 feet long with a weight of about 5 ounces. However, the length of the rod will depend on the size of the stream that you want to fish in. Smaller streams will require that you purchase and use a shorter rod. The fly fishing line is usually heavier than the usual line used for other types of fishing. These lines are manufactured to either float on the surface of the water or to sink into the water. The fly lure that you choose will depend on the type of fishing that you want to do and the species of fish that you want to catch. Some fish seek their food from amongst objects that float on the water surface and to catch these fish your lure needs to mimic floating insects. Other fish get their food from objects in the water and to catch those you lure needs to mimic those objects. The experience fly fisherman always carries a wide selection of fishing lure because what worked yesterday might not necessarily work today. With fly fishing, the time of the day, the temperature of the water, the glare of the sun on the surface of the water, the speed of the water in the stream, and other factors determine what type of lure will work. Fly fishing is such an established sport that the fishing lures have been divided into official categories. These are the dry flies and emergers, the nymphs, the streamers, the wet flies, the saltwater flies, the bass and panfish flies, and these salmon and steelhead flies. Enjoying fly fishing requires a little bit of preparation and knowledge acquisition and thereafter it is learning from experience whilst enjoying the beauty and serenity of nature. The Myth Of A Christian Soul Mate

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

By Jay White Catch phrases are a part of everyday society. They become hugely popular, ride a wave of cultural phenomenon, than seem to disappear as quickly as they came. But theres a term that was introduced years ago and still hasnt dropped from the vocabulary, even in Christian dating circles. Whenever theres a conversation about relationships, it always seems to pop out of somewhere. That term is soul mate. Read romance novels. Listen to popular love songs. Watch movies on Lifetime television, and chances are soul mate will be uttered in some way, shape or form. In fact, entire stories have spawned from the idea of a soul mate. Ever see Sleepless in Seattle? You get the picture. But Im here to tell you something that may not be popular, but I sincerely believe its the truth: Theres no such thing as a soul mate. Now, before you gasp and go storming away from your computer, consider the premise of Sleepless in Seattle. A perfectly happy woman, engaged to a man she loves, spends most of her time lamenting the fact that she may have missed out on someone better. Of course, were led to believe her true soul mate lives 3,000 miles away and doesnt know her from Adam. Yet, destiny and fate must have their way, and incredible circumstances bring them to the climactic scene on top of the Empire State Building, where the two strangers lock eyes and know instantly that they are to be together forever. Fade to black, roll credits and hand me a barf bag! Dont get me wrongI can dig a chick movie now and then. But to buy into the soul mate theory goes completely against what God wants for us in a relationship. For example, my wife and I believe 100% that God brought us together. I am completely and totally in love with my wife. Does that mean I could never love another? Nope. I could fall in love with someone else if I wanted. I could crush everything weve built and separate myself from my family. But I CHOOSE not to. And thats the key. Real love is not at-first-sight, violins-and-bluebirds baloney. Its a choice. Plain and simple. Destiny hasnt preordained our lives, God has. But Hes also given us free will in the matter. Just like we make the choice between serving God or serving ourselves, we also choose whether or not to love someone. But according to popular culture and the media, you dont have a choice. You must search for your one-and-only soul mate. Get all swept up in the romance. Dont be concerned with the real world. And thats what gets a lot of people in trouble. They start believing the hype instead of believing the Truth. Before you know it, theyre throwing away a perfectly healthy relationship for a fantasy. In fact, its my personal belief that a large factor in the demise of traditional family values is the proliferation of such anti-Christian ideas, such as a soul mate, through the media. If I buy into the notion of a soul mate, then I believe destiny has preordained just one person for me. Only one. Anyone else would obviously make me unhappy and unfulfilled. After all, its been laid out for me already. I have no choice. Wrong! What if I lost my wife tragically? I would hope that the Lord would bring someone for me to marry again in time, but if Ronda was my soul mate, then what would that make my second wifesoul mate part 2? See what am I getting at here? God has a perfect mate for you and will help you find them. But He cant make you love them. Thats up to you. For example, we have friends who spent their lives on the mission field. The wife will flat-out tell you that she did not love her husband when she married him. But she knew God wanted them to be together, so she grew to love him over the years and never looked back. Now THATs faith! Do yourself a favorturn off the tube. Throw away those trashy novels. Stop listening to those sappy love songs and dig into the Word! Jesus said I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. He had a plan for me and he has a plan for you. Talk with Him, listen to Him, and Hell lead the way. And when you do find that special someone, youll know that its not destiny that brought you together, but His good and perfect will. So take that Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks! The reality is if you really wanted to make something happen, then you would make it happen. If you want something bad enough we can almost always find a way to make it happen, of course there might be some physical restrictions, such as if you wanted to play in the NBA but your only 5′1 tall. How ever I am here to say that there is nothing more satisfying then becoming successful at something you love. You need to give it your best shot, it’s that cut and dry. Even if starting your own business is that thing you have always wanted to do, but you don’t have the required funds to make it a reality, you can always find small business grants and loans. You just need to do your research first. You’re not along if you need small business grants and loans to get your business started. The thing that a lot of would be small business owners never do is seek out the money they need. Think about it college students do it all the time. When I was attending university I searched for weeks for student aid, scholarships, and grants. There was just no way I was going to be able to afford the big bill I had coming in the fall on my part time wages from pumping gas. Now if you’re not familiar grants are money that doesn’t need to be repaid, while a loan of course does need to be repaid. The key is that if your researching loans consider the lowest interest rates you can find. So you need to use this same mentality when your researching small business grants and loans. Search for grants, and loans, of course free money is better then money you need to repay, but if you do need to get a loan ensure you’re getting the best interest rate you can find. If you are considering starting your own home business in the near future you should consider researching small business grants and loans now. The best place to start your search, as with so many things is the Internet. There are numerous sites that provide a lot of information on available small business grants and loans. Not to mention banks and other local organizations that may offer loans to small and homes startup businesses. So stop whining about that job you hate, and start doing something you really want to do. Get off your butt, and get into action start researching your small business or grant loan today. The Tower of Babel

Sunday, March 2nd, 2008

By Bonnie Moss Now the whole earth had one language and few words. And as men migrated from the east, they found a plain in the land of Shinar and settled there. And they said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks, and burn them thoroughly.”And they had brick for stone, and bitumen for mortar. Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower with its top in the heavens, and let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.”Genesis 11 The Babylonians referred to the tower as Elemenanki.Babel-lociameans gate; el meaning God,Hence, the Gate of God.Hebrew word babal means confusion. The Tower of Babel has inspired artists, writers, archeologists , historical researchers and many others. The Greek historian, Herodotus, was impressed by the immensity of the tower when he visited it in 460 B.C.Nebuchadnezzar II successfully built ncarnationsduring his reign as ruler of Babylon, 605-562 B.C. The tower started to crumble by 478 B.C. whenKing Xerxes of Persia crushed a rebellion. The tower traces its origins in the bible, built by Nimrod the Hunter, a great- grandson of Noah. Nimrod was the son of Cush, the son of Ham, brother of Sem and Japhet who were the sons of Noah. Nimrod was the king of Shinar. He was a ruthlessconqueror, an ambitious politician and a great hunter. The Talmud refers to him as the hunter of the souls ofmen. Nimrods name means: let us revolt. He used religion on his people to build a tower to reach to the heavens, a place of worship. However, he was atyrant who organized a rebellion against Yahweh as hispower grew. Symbolically, the top of the tower was dedicated to the heavens, a representation of God. As the towerwas taking form, reaching God was no longer the ultimate goal. The intent was to build a place of worship of God.Was it to ensure their place on earth, an offeringto God? What better shrine can man offer to God?But as the work progressed, it became clear that the tower was being built as a shrine to mans glory and achievement. Symbolically, the tower represents mans needto understand and satisfy the unity of mind, body and spirit. They had their tower and their city.Cities then, were built to satisfy the physical/material needs of man and to nourish his spirit. Cities were centers of culture, commerce. pleasure and social life. Through art, music, beauty and the other ingredients of culture, the needs and the hunger of the spirit was satisfied. The intent in building the tower was a place to reach out to God. A tower tall enough to reach out to heaven. Were they that nave to think that such a structurecan be built to reach upwards to the heavens? As the tower got closer to completion, it was nolonger a place to worship God, but it was evolvinginto a shrine to mans achievement. It was built toserve mans purpose, not that of the Creator. The tower was built as a testament to themselves.Let us make a name for ourselves. Man finds glorywith his achievements. Sure, originally, God was in their thoughts as they built their tower. Religion has always permeated through mankind. It was a greatmotivator in every facet of society. Was the tower built to communicate to God?Or was it a means to control Him? Was it a wayto channel Him to fulfill mans glory? God visited the site of construction. He knows mans folly, which He ultimately forgives. From the Tower of Babel, languages evolved,Many tongues were spoken and there must havebeen utter confusion. Man spread out into different parts of the world . Thus, nations were born. Think of the change in the whole world after the bombing of the World Trade Center, the Twin Towersof New York City. Disclaimer:This is not a biblical essay nor study. This is too broad asubject to be covered in a personal essay. Just mythoughts reflecting on a tower as a catapult to change.
